As we tick over into the last half an hour of the day and I am a cup of tea and a slice of Cherry cake (it had fruit in it!) happier, the last of my afternoon goes as follows:
- Go back to earlier co-worker question which involves Yahoo! Pipes. Wrangle with it, manage to somehow fix it. Or, uh, used my l33t systems librarian skillz to cause miracle. Yes. *shifty eyes*
- Write notes for tomorrow’s meeting with additional metrics suggestions and the important (as far as I’m concerned) points of today’s haul of possible chat services
- Run the backups of our MySQL databases
- Clear out spam followers on library twitter account
- Remind myself that I’m on the enquiry desk first thing in the morning
- Take mug back to cafe so it’s waiting in the morning
- Flee building for food shopping and then home
And thus ends a day in this librarian’s life.

Shortly I will make a break for the café for tea (and possibly a cake.) but productiveness abounds, honest.
- Had a further, in-depth phone conversation with Gillian from SAC about their chat service, which is starting to look ideal. Thank you again, Gillian for taking the time out to chat about it!
- Emailed the Customer Services Librarian about the possible new options and discussed further topics for our meeting
- Answered a few tech questions for other members of the library team and was stumped by one of them
- Suggested a few free online alternates for paid services to another library’s librarian, hopefully they helped!
Now, caaaaaaake. I mean, fruit. And tea. Nom nom.

A break for lunch (home grown salad defended from my slug nemesis, boiled eggs, tomatoes and some artichoke hearts from the work cafe’s new range. Nom!) and my day continues thus:
- Finished answering emails - inbox cheerfully empty, hooray!
- Started looking at alternate IM services for our ‘ask a librarian’ chat service - we’re currently trialling with Meebo - which included a nice chat with Elaine from the SAC Library about their system.
- Arranged a meeting with our Customer Services Librarian about our internal stats database, the quick stats we gather and what metrics we could add in the future.
- Checked that Wednesday’s RSS training attendee is still happy with the time/date and location of her training. Must go over training notes and add a few new things.
Next up: back to the IM service hunt! Also possibly a visit to the café for a cuppa. Mmm, tea.

Library Day in the Life Round #5 today! I’m a systems librarian, working in a health library in London.
My morning thus far:
- Sorted out a recalcitrant Athens login verification email issue for one of the new researchers, made mental note to run Athens stats and see what we can add to our metrics collection.
- Greatly regretted wearing beautiful new shoes to work sans back up flats! Coffee run was slightly dangerous but required!
- Cleared the weekend backlog of library and IT related feeds from feed reader and Outlook and updated the Top Ten IT/ILS News feed
- Sorted out Enquiry Desk rota shifts for the week
- Reduced inbox back to ‘things that must be answered’, deleted or shifted anything else to relevant folders.
Next up: answering emails! Rest of day to appear, as it happens, which can be followed on this tag.
